Residents and staff from Rivermead Care Home in Malton recently enjoyed their very own forest adventure thanks to Dalby Forest Cycle Hub’s specially adapted bikes. The home’s Activities Coordinator Beth Clark joined in the fun as a group of residents and carers went wheeling through the sun-dappled woods.
The Hub team had kitted them out with bikes of their choice, side-by-side tandems and a wheelchair transporter bike, to help them roll back the years as they pedalled along under the leafy green canopy of the Ellerburn Trail, enjoying the sights, smells and sounds of an English forest on a summer’s day.

The visit had been organised with the help of one of our directors, Rob Brown, who said afterwards: “Rivermead Care Home does an amazing job looking after residents with a wide range of needs, including physical disabilities and dementia.
“At Dalby Forest Cycle Hub CIC we are always happy to welcome visitors to use our adapted bikes because we understand how much enjoyment they can bring.
“The simple act of cycling can be exhilarating but we also recognise that the bikes are vital tools for engagement and social interaction, and cycling through the forest encourages riders to chat and enjoy an activity they may have done together years before.”

Beth told us that one Rivermead resident had so enjoyed the forest ride that he has decided he wants to get fit again – and to have a bike of his own. “He now has an exercise bike in his room and he’s very keen to return to Dalby Forest,” she said.

As well as selling and hiring out a large range of high-quality bikes, including specialist adapted bikes, we also sell accessories and helmets from Trek, Bontrager, Fox and other brands. We believe that cycling can improve the physical and mental health of nearly everyone, and this motivates us to ensure that riding the trails of Dalby Forest can be enjoyed by all.
